The Verdict: If you live, go to school or worship in Southern California, you can apply for membership in the Wescom Credit Union. That’s a good thing; with membership you can also apply for the Wescom Visa card. That’s a good thing, too; this card comes with a purchase interest rate that’s far below the rates charged by mainstream consumer credit cards. In addition, it comes with a solid rewards program. In all, it’s a high-quality card to add to your collection.

Overview: The Wescom Visa Credit Card is only open to members of the Wescom Credit Union. This means that you’ll have to live in Southern California — or work or attend church services there — to apply for this card. If you do get accepted for this card, your interest rate could be under 9 percent, depending on the quality of your credit.

How This Card Works. The rewards program attached to this card is simple. You’ll earn rewards points for every dollar that you charge with this card. Once you’re reached at least 1,200 rewards points, you can start redeeming them for merchandise, gift certificates, movie tickets or other rewards.

Travel & Shopping Benefits: You’ll earn a rewards point every time you charge a dollar with your Wescom Credit Union Visa. The card also comes with a high-usage bonus. If you make at least 10 Platinum Visa transactions a month, or 120 in a calendar year, you’ll receive 1,000 annual bonus rewards points and automatic renewal for up to 1,000 points that are due to expire.

Fees: The main benefit of the Wescom Credit Union Platinum Visa is the low purchase interest rate attached to it. Depending on your credit, your rate can be as low as 8.90 percent. However, if your credit is weak, your purchase interest rate can soar as high as 19.5 percent. This cad, then, only makes sense for cardholders with solid credit. There is no annual fee with this card.

Pros:

  • No annual fee
  • Solid rewards program
  • Low purchase interest rate

Cons:

  • Must be member of Wescom Credit Union to apply for this card
  • Interest rate can be high if your credit is weak
