The Verdict: The TFCU Gold Mastercard is a well designed card that offers many travel and shopping benefits to cardholders, including rewards points on every purchase. The card has a low APR, high credit limits and no fees for balance transfers, making it an excellent choice for almost any credit union member. This credit card appeals to individuals who want to transfer balances from other cards, those who want a card to earn rewards on purchases and even those who tend to carry a balance from month to month. Overall, it has few flaws and makes the perfect travel credit card.

Overview: The TFCU Gold MasterCard is designed to meet all of the cardholder’s needs with a solid rewards program, travel services, shopping benefits and a low APR. This card features rewards using the CURewards program, which allows cardmembers to redeem points for merchandise, travel and more. Travel services include a cash bonus on airline travel, discounts on rentals and hotels and 24 hour member services. Because it comes with a high credit limit and a reasonable APR, this card can appeal to cardholders with many credit card needs.

How These Cards Work: The TFCU Gold MasterCard is accepted worldwide and has a 25 day grace period for cardholders to avoid interest charges on purchases. This card includes retail purchase protection, which covers items bought with the card against theft or damage for 90 days and adds extended warranties as well. With the CURewards system, cardholders earn one point for every $1 spent with their Mastercard to use on over 500 different services and products like air travel, electronics and more. There are no fees for balance transfers, so cardholders can transfer balances from high interest cards onto their Gold Mastercard to save on interest each year. The low APR of 8.50% applies to balance transfers, purchases and cash advances.

Travel & Shopping Benefits: This card has a great range of shopping and travel benefits for members. Mastercard provides retail protection service to cardholders, which protects purchases against theft or damage for up to 90 days after purchase and also adds extended warranties. Insurance is automatically added to rental vehicles to save on this added expense, while roadside assistance, emergency help and pre-trip assistance are also included. Emergency services can include ticket replacement and message or cash services. Using this card gives cardholders guaranteed low rates on hotels and rentals and the 24 hour reservation service can be especially helpful. In addition, cardholders receive special discounts on hotels and rental vehicles. A 5% travel cash bonus may also apply. Registration services are also included with this credit card, which provides a household inventory for insurance purposes, registration of credit cards and documentation of valuables. Cardholders also earn one point for every $1 spent using their Gold Mastercard, which may be redeemed for merchandise and travel starting at 2,000 points.

Fees: The TFCU Gold Mastercard is free of hidden fees that are common with credit cards issued by banks. This card has no annual fee and an APR between 8.50% and 10.50%, depending on credit worthiness. The APR applies to purchases, balance transfers and cash advances. For the first six billing periods, cardholders qualify for an introductory APR on purchases of 3.99%. There are no fees for balance transfers, whereas the average is around 2% for most cards. This can present a substantial savings to cardholders that want to consolidate their credit card debt to a low interest card.

  • No annual fee
  • Registration, travel and emergency services
  • Good rewards program
  • Discounts on hotels and rentals
  • Retail protection from MasterCard
  • No-fee balance transfers
