Verdict: The Sony Credit Card is a fairly standard retail credit card, offering bonus rewards for shopping at Sony Style stores and online at SonyStyle.com. However overall these retail credit cards, simply can’t compete with the rewards programs offered by cash back credit cards such as the Discover More Card.

With Discover More you can earn 5% – 20% cash back on all of your electronics purchases online at popular retails such as Best Buy through the ShopDiscover program. In addition to this the Discover More Card also allows you to earn 5% back on gas, travel and other popular rotating categories.

Overview: The SonyCard or Sony Credit Card, allows you to earn rewards that can redeemed for Sony electronics and products. This card is targeted at customers of the Sony Style stores, and those who buy from Sony online through SonyStyle.com

How this card works: The SonyCard is a retail credit card and has a rewards program structured around all things Sony. What I mean by this is you earn bonus points for shopping at Sony Stores for Sony Products, and then the points you earn can then be redeemed for – you guessed it – Sony products.

Fees: This card has no annual fee.

Rewards: With this card you earn 5 Sony Rewards Points for every $1 you spend at Sony Style Stores and at SonyStyle.com. You then earn 1 Sony Rewards Point on all other purchases you make with the card. Points can be redeemed online through the Sony Rewards website.

I just reviewed the PlayStation Credit Card which actually has an identical rewards program – I found that many of the offers offered on the Sony Rewards website were rather gimmicky, when reviewing the rewards site it almost felt like I wasn’t really going to be saving any money with many of the offers – Sony was just trying to sell me more stuff, which was a major turn off. I’m a big fan of credit card programs that give me back cold, hard, cash – this way I know that I really did end up saving money. Unfortunately with the Sony Card, cash back or a statement credit simply isn’t an option on it’s own.

Pros:

  • No Annual Fee.

Cons:

  • High APR.
  • Bonus points can only be earned at Sony Style stores or by shopping online at SonyStyle.com.
