The Verdict: San Antonio Credit Union offers three different credit cards to members with the Visa Gold being the middle of the three. While there are no rewards for this card, it also has no annual fee and a very competitive low APR for purchases, balance transfers and cash advances. With over 4,000 banking locations available, this credit card is a solid offering for members who want a simple credit card for emergencies or tend to carry a balance.

Overview: San Antonio Credit Union offers a number of different credit cards to members, including the SACU Visa Gold card. This credit card is a step above their Visa Classic and includes a range of travel benefits, as well as low rates. SACU cards are a popular choice for members in the San Antonio and Houston area because the credit union has almost 20 locations and is a member of CU Service Centers, allowing cardholders to bank at over 4,000 partner locations.

How These Cards Work: The SACU Visa Gold card is accepted anywhere Visa is and has a full 25-day grace period for purchases. Cardholders can avoid any interest charges by paying off purchases within this time limit. Members can choose to bank at any San Antonio Credit Union location or one of 4,000 partner locations for extra convenience. For the first six billing periods, purchases and cash advances are subject to an introductory APR of 7.90%, which increases to 11.90%. Balance transfers are always subject to a 9.90% APR.

Travel & Shopping Benefits: The Visa Gold card offers a number of significant upgrades from the Visa Classic aside from lower interest rates. This credit card from SACU includes protection from fraud, along with $150,000 in travel accident insurance for the cardholder and family members. Also included for travelers is pre-trip assistance, emergency ticket replacement, medical assistance and automobile rental loss/damage waiver and collision insurance. These premium travel benefits can be a great advantage for cardholders that rent cars or travel away from home frequently because it can save a great deal on insurance costs.

Fees: All credit cards offered by the San Antonio Credit Union have no annual fee or penalty APR after delinquent payments. This card also has no charges for cash advances or balance transfers, whereas most credit cards have a 1-4% transaction charge for these services. The Visa Gold card has a discount APR for the first six billing periods on cash advances and purchases, which increases to 11.90%. The APR on balance transfers is always 9.90%. There are a number of fees associated with the card. including late and returned payment fees of $25, statement and document copy fees of $2, a rush fee of $25, a card replacement fee of $3, a lettercheck return fee of $4.50 and a due date change fee of $15. All foreign transactions are subject to a 1.00% fee as well.
