The Verdict: If you live South Central Texas, you might be eligible to join the Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union, better known as the RBFCU. This is good news, especially if you’re looking for a rewards credit card with low interest rates and fees. RBFCU offers the RBFCU Platinum Rewards MasterCard. With this card, you can earn rewards points with every purchase you make. And you can do so for a purchase interest rate under 10 percent.

Overview: This card is a welcome addition to any consumer’s wallet. Like many credit union credit cards, the RBFCU Platinum Rewards MasterCard comes with low interest rates and fees. But unlike many, it also comes with a solid rewards program.

How This Card Works: Every time you make a purchase with the RBFCU Platinum Rewards MasterCard, you’ll earn Star Points. Once you earn enough Star Points, you can redeem them for a wide variety of brand-name merchandise, hotel stays, gift cards and travel rewards. For 3,000 Star Points, you can earn a $25 gift card to many retailers. For 11,000 Star Points, you can receive a $100 gift card. You can earn airline tickets for 10,000 reward points.

Travel & Shopping Benefits: For every dollar that you charge with your card, you’ll earn one Star Point.

Fees: Your purchase interest rate with this card will range from 9.7 percent to 15.7 percent, depending on the strength of your credit. The card also comes with a special introductory interest rate of 3.9 percent on all balance transfers made from July 1, 2011, to Dec. 31, 2011. The card does not charge an annual fee, cash-advance fee or over-the-credit-limit fee. The card does, though, charge an $18 late-payment fee and a $15 returned-payment fee.

Pros

  • No annual fee.
  • Solid rewards program.
  • Low purchase interest rate and fees.

Cons

  • Must be member of RBFCU to apply for this card.
  • Late and returned-payment fees.
