Very Good
Verdict: The Delta Reserve Credit Card from American Express is a great rewards card for individuals that fly Delta and spend at least $30,000 per calendar year. This card grants access to the Delta Sky Club, which features a fully stocked bar and satellite television for customers and their spouse and children or up to 2 other guests.

The Delta Reserve Credit Card has an annual fee of $450 and is for individuals that spend a minimum of $30,000 per year. Spending earns MQMs (Medallion Qualification Miles), which accumulate to grant medallion access, which has it’s own benefits. Medallion status allows one unlimited complimentary upgrades and priority boarding, among other things. This card also has a host of other travel and protection services.

Delta Reserve Rewards Program

The Delta Reserve credit card earns 15,000 MQMs after $30,000 is spent per calendar year and 30,000 MQMs after $60,000 is spent. You can give MQMs to family members and friends or use them yourself to achieve medallion status, which offers a large variety of upgrades and tickets. Your MQMs are also used to purchase miles for Delta flights with no blackout dates. Also, a first class companion certificate is awarded each year.

Travel and Shopping Benefits with Delta Reserve

This card grants many travel benefits, including travel accident insurance, baggage insurance and car rental loss and damage insurance. Roadside assistance and concierge service is also available. This card is designed for people that spend a large part of their time traveling and away from home. MQMs are also awarded to help the member reach medallion status.

This card also comes with plenty of other protections and benefits. Assistance with legal, financial, medical and other emergency matters is available to those who are over 100 miles from home. Also, the first bag of you and your companions is checked for free on Delta flights. Additionally, various forms of purchase protection are in place with this card.

How It Compares To Other Airline Mile Credit Cards

Delta Reserve vs Platinum Delta SkyMiles

The Platinum Delta SkyMiles Credit Card comes with a much lower annual fee than the Delta Reserve Card at $150. That is $300 less right off the bat. Other than that, the fees are essentially the same.

In terms of the perks, the Delta Reserve Card offers more. The Delta Reserve offers access to the Delta Sky Club, which the Platinum Delta SkyMiles Card does not. Additionally, the Delta Reserve Card gives 15,000 MQMs after $30,000 is spent and 30,000 MQMs after $60,000 is spent while the Platinum Delta SkyMiles Card offers 10,000 MQMs at $25,000 and 20,000 MQMs at $50,000. On a per dollar basis, the Delta Reserve Card is a better deal in this regard. Other than that, the benefits are very similar. Essentially, it comes down to whether or not you think access to the Delta Sky Club and a better return of MQMs per dollar spent are worth the extra $300 or not. If so, the Delta Reserve Card is better for you. If not, the Platinum Delta SkyMiles Card is better for you.

Delta Reserve vs Gold Delta SkyMiles

The Gold Delta SkyMiles Card has a much lower annual fee than the Delta Reserve Card at $95, which is waived during the first year. It also offers 20,000 bonus miles after the first purchase, making the bonus miles better on this card for those who are hoping to accumulate points quickly without breaking the bank.

In terms of benefits, the Delta Reserve Card offers more. It offers access to the Delta Sky Club and a complimentary first-class airline ticket annually. The value of that ticket alone is going to be more than the difference in annual fees in most cases. Thus, if you intend to take advantage of that feature, the win goes to the Delta Reserve Card when comparing it to the Gold Delta SkyMiles Card.
