Verdict: The BMW Platinum Visa Card offers a wide variety of surprisingly good rewards and perks including up to $5,000 back on your BMW lease or loan. The downside however is that when it comes to actually earning rewards, this card makes it fairly difficult – only allowing you to earn 1 point for every $2 on most purchases.

Overview: The BMW Platinum Visa Card was created for those who own or are currently leasing a BMW. This card allows you to earn rewards points for every dollar you spend and these points can then be redeemed for a variety of BMW related rewards including free additional lease miles and BMW merchandise gift certificates.

I actually own a BMW and remember them offering me this card when I bought my car. Although I didn’t take them up on the offer at the time – after reviewing the card I may actually look into it because of the great rewards program (but I’ll talk more about that below).

This card also has a really low APR for a retail credit card (it can range from 7% – 18% depending on credit).

Fees: This card has no annual fee.

Rewards: When I first heard about this card I immediately had my doubts, however after actually looking into the rewards program I was suprised – which doesn’t happen very often with credit cards. This card allows you to earn 1 point for every $2 you spend. You also earn doubles points on all gas purchases. The BMW Platinum Visa has a diverse rewards program that allows you to redeem the points for a variety of different rewards which I have broken down into three main categories below.

1. BMW Lease Rewards

This card’s rewards program is especially good for those who are currently leasing a BMW – you can redeem your points for free additional lease miles as well as excess wear and tear use.

Free Additional Lease Miles

  • 1,000 miles = 20,000 points
  • 2,000 miles = 40,000 points
  • 3,000 miles = 60,000 points
  • 5,000 miles = 100,000 points

Excess Wear and Use

  • $100 = 10,000 points
  • $150 = 15,000 points
  • $200 = 20,000 points

2. BMW Owner Rewards

If you’re a BMW owner like myself, you can redeem points for service and maintenance, or credit towards your loan assuming you went through BMW financial. You can also redeem for any of the other rewards below.

BMW Center Dividends (for maintenance or accessories)

  • $100 check = 10,000 points
  • $250 check = 20,000 points
  • $300 check = 30,000 points

3. Other Rewards:

There are also quite a few other rewards which I’m just going to give a brief overview of. If you join the Performance Plus rewards program ($50 annual fee) you can redeem points for air travel to anywhere within the U.S., Mexico, Caribbean, Canada, Hawaii or Alaska. If you’re a Performance Plus member you can also redeem points for hotel rooms at Marriott, Hyatt, and Ritz Carlton Hotels.

You can also redeem rewards for gift certificates at popular retails such as Bed Bath & Beyond, Macy’s, Crate & Barrel, Coach and many more. There is also no cap on the amount of rewards that you can earn.

In addition to the rewards, this card comes with numerous other perks including auto rental insurance, $3,000 lost luggage assistance, and roadside assistance.

Pros:

  • Great Rewards Program.
  • No Annual Fee (for a basic membership).
  • No Cap on Amount on Rewards.
  • Double Points on Gas Purchases.
  • Low APR.

Cons:

  • Can be hard to earn points at $2 for 1 point.
