This card has very few hidden costs, no annual fee and no penalty APR. Overall, the APCO Visa card is a good choice for members who want a straightforward, free to carry card. This card works well for those who make frequent purchases to take advantage of the cash back and individuals who want to finance large purchases.

Overview: The APCO Credit Union extends membership to many individuals who live and work in Alabama. The card comes with cash back and a reasonable APR at a fixed rate, along with no annual fee. There are few downsides to this card and individuals with excellent credit may prefer a credit card with a better rewards system and lower APR. Still, the APCO card is a good choice for credit union members who are looking for a well-made cash back card that costs nothing to carry.

How These Cards Work: The APCO credit card is accepted worldwide and offers cardholders the ability to access cash anywhere with a PIN. This card has a full 25-day grace period for purchases, allowing cardholders to avoid interest charges by paying their new balance in full each month by the due date. For cash advances and balance transfers, interest charges begin immediately on the transaction date. Online access is available to members to view balances, make transfers and more through APCO Credit Union’s web site. Applying for this credit card requires membership in the credit union. Membership in the APCO Credit Union requires one of the following: a family member in the credit union, an employee or retiree of certain groups or an employee or retiree of Southern Company Services, Alabama Power Company, Southern Nuclear or other companies associated with the Southern Company. The only other requirement is at least $25 maintained in a regular savings account and regular account use. Job change and place of residence will not affect membership. This card earns cardholders 1% cash back on all purchases.

Travel & Shopping Benefits: The APCO credit card gives cardholders basic shopping and travel benefits. Discounts are offered at many retailers around the country, including Dell, Home Depot and Sam’s Club. Auto rental insurance and emergency assistance is included, which gives cardholders the ability to request emergency card replacement and cash disbursement. In addition, optional credit insurance is offered for cardholders who want protection against disability or death. This card earns 1% cash back on all purchases which is deposited in a savings account annually.

Fees: This card has no annual fee. The APCO Visa card has a fixed APR of 10.9% that is not tied to the index. This APR applies to cash advances and balance transfers in addition to purchases. There is no transaction fee for purchases and no minimum interest charge. Cash advances are subject to a 1% fee with a minimum of $3, although there is no fee for balance transfers. Statement replacements are $10, a VISA draft reproduction is $10 and the returned check fee is $12. Late fees are charged when a payment is more than 10 days late and the amount is either $10 or 5% of the scheduled payment amount, up to $100, whichever is greater.
