The rewards system is straightforward and the card also offers a number of important travel and shopping benefits. Most importantly, this credit card is free of hidden charges and has no annual fee. This credit card is a good choice for cardholders who want a free to carry card that earns rewards, or those who carry a balance and don’t want to pay high interest charges.

Overview: American Eagle Federal Credit Union offers a range of financial services to members, including the Visa Platinum Rewards card. This credit card has the lowest rate offered by the credit union and is designed to be simple and easy to use. There is a credit limit up to $25,000, a range of travel and shopping benefits and a free rewards program that earns points on every purchase. Overall, this credit card is well designed and well suited for many members.

How These Cards Work: This credit card is accepted worldwide and features a 25-day grace period on purchases only. To avoid interest charges, the balance must be paid in full before the due date each month. For cash advances and convenience checks, interest is charged beginning on the transaction date. Cardholders also receive an introductory rate of 4.99% on balance transfers, cash advances and purchases for 8 months. Travel & Shopping Benefits: There are many travel and shopping benefits with the American Eagle Platinum Rewards card. Free travel emergency insurance is provided up to $400,000, along with emergency travel assistance that provides references, cash disbursement and card replacement. A cardholder inquiry service is available to assist 24/7 and free rental insurance is automatically applied to any rentals made with the credit card. There is an optional payment protection plan that costs $0.59 per $100 of the ending monthly balance. This protects against unemployment, disability and death. The Verified by Visa program protects the cardholder against identity theft and fraud while shopping online by allowing them to create a personal password to enter upon checkout.

Fees: There is no annual fee for this credit card. The APR for purchases, balance transfers, cash advances and convenience checks is either 8.90%, 10.50%, 12.50%, 15.50% or 16.50%. There is no minimum interest charge. The over-the-limit fee is $24 per billing cycle, while the late payment fee is a flat $25. Card replacements are $5. Cash advances are $5 or 3% of the advance, not to exceed $40. The same fee applies to money orders and wire transfers.
