The Verdict: The Premium Visa card from Affinity is a good basic credit card with an interest rate as low as 8.60% with no annual fee or hidden costs. This credit card has a full range of travel and shopping benefits for the consumer, including travel and auto insurance, warranty extension and shopping discounts. Although the card has no rewards program, it does offer no-fee balance transfers and no penalty APR. Overall, this credit card is best for cardholders who use their credit card infrequently, or those who wish to transfer a balance from a high-interest card.

Overview: Affinity Federal Credit Union offers two basic credit cards to cardholders: the Pure Rewards card and the Premium Visa. Both cards have a number of advantages and are free of hidden costs and fees. They also carry low variable APRs and a range of travel and shopping benefits. The Premium Visa is the rewards-free card that is best used as a backup credit card or for individuals who want to finance larger purchases at a low cost.

How These Cards Work: This Premium Visa is accepted worldwide and carries a range of travel and shopping benefits for the cardholder. The grace period is 25 days, during which time no interest is charged on purchases. To avoid interest charges completely, cardholders may pay off their balance in full during this time. Interest is charged immediately on balance transfers and cash advances, however. This card includes zero fraud liability and the optional Verified by Visa program, which allows the cardholder to select a password to use during online shopping to verify identity. Online account access is provided, allowing the cardholder to view balances, make payments and transfers and check transactions through a secure site.

Travel & Shopping Benefits: This credit card offers a range of Visa benefits, including discounts at select retailers and discounts on auto rentals, hotel stays and more. This card includes purchase security, which reimburses the cardholder if purchases are stolen or damaged. Free concierge service is included, which assists the cardholder to reservations, travel, restaurants and more. Auto rental coverage is automatic which covers the cardholder for collisions and theft of most rental cars when paid with the credit card. Travel accident insurance, emergency card replacement, travel emergency assistance and baggage delay coverage are also included. The warranty manager is especially helpful as it doubles the manufacturer’s original warranty for warranties of three years or less.

Fees: There is no annual fee for the Premium Visa from Affinity. The APR is a variable 8.60% to 14.60%, which varies depending on credit worthiness. This same APR will apply to purchases, balance transfers and cash advances. There is no minimum interest charge for the card and no transaction fees for balance transfers or cash advances. The foreign transaction fee is between 0.8% and 1.0%. Late payments and returned payments may incur a fee up to $25. Statement copies cost $3 and the card replacement cost is $5.

  • No annual fee
  • No penalty APR
  • Balance transfers and cash advances are fee-free
  • No hidden costs
  • APR as low as 8.90%
