Q: I bought an airline ticket using my American Express, but now I need to change my flight. Is there a fee for doing thing?
A: You can find out the approximate amount you will be refunded or credited by using the exchange/cancel calculator on the American Express website.
Be aware, however, that you can only use this feature for flight-only transactions.
You cannot use it if you have booked a flight, hotel, and car (for example) together. And this is one reason some people book each aspect of their trip as a separate items. It makes it easier to make adjustments later on.
Have your trip ID information and e-mail address available. You will probably be asked for that information to confirm your identity and the booking.
Now you are ready to log in to your American Express online account. From there you will need to go to the American Express Travel website by clicking here.
Once you have accessed your account, click on the “View trips and manage account options” link. You will see the information on the trip or trips you booked. Click on “View” next to the trip you wish to change or cancel.
As soon as you have done that, you will see the itinerary displayed on the right side, with a link to “Change or cancel your reservation”. Click on that link and you will see the “Cancel Options” button that will take you to the exchange/cancel calculator. Click on that to display the calculator.
From that point on, you will need to follow the on-screen directions. These directions will be straight forward and easy to follow. In fact, the hardest part is just figuring out the menu options to get you started.
Good luck changing your ticket. Enjoy your trip. And, hopefully, you will not need to come out of pocket any additional costs or fees for making the change.
