Q: I know that I’m eligible for up to 5% cash back points with my Discover More card, but I’m confued as to what I can use these points on. I’m looking to spend them on saving for the holiday season, can I even do this?

A: In order to offer you better service, and make it easier for you to decide just how you want to earn your up to 5% cash back benefit, Discover More has designated certain months in which you earn cash back points for making specific charges.

January through March is when you want to make travel plans. That’s because you earn up to 5% cash back when you charge $800 or more for things related to travel, including airline tickets and other purchases.

Between April and June, when you get ready to spring clean your home and purchase your spring and summer reward, you’ll be ready to earn your up to 5% cash back on purchases of $400 or more for items related to home improvement or redecorating or fashion. Then, starting in July and going through September, your vacation to that theme park and your hotel stay, the gas you purchased to get there, and those movies you watched on those sweltering days will earn you up to 5% because you spent $300 or more and had fun doing it.

As the days start cooling down, and you get ready for football season, you can enjoy grocery shopping for your favorite tailgating items. But, if the changing season brings on seasonal allergies or even colds, you won’t mind much, because you were also able to earn up to 5% cash back because you spent $200 or more at both the grocery store and the drug store.

Just in time for the holidays, October through December is the time to earn up to 5% cash back for the $300 or more you spent on Christmas presents, including restaurant and department store gift cards.
