Q: After reading the review on your site, I am very interested in applying for the American Express Gold Card. What is the minumum credit score required to do this?

A: The American Express Gold Card is a charge card, meaning you pay off the balance every month. It is one of the most popular and sought after charge cards, and as such it requires a good to excellent credit score. What this means is that you should have a credit score around 700 – 750 or above. Those with a credit score of 750 and above have the best chance of qualifying, but such a high score is not necessary. If your credit score is 700 and your income and credit history are solid, you have a high chance of being approved.

The American Express Gold card is a good choice for a charge card. It has a large selection of rewards offers, in fact, one of the largest selections for a rewards card. It includes travel, shopping, dining, and more. There is also no preset spending limit, which is one of the reasons it is so popular. It does, however, have an annual fee: $125, waived for the first year. If you spend enough to earn more than $125 in rewards, this is a good card for you.
