Q: What kinds of perks are there with the American Express Platinum card? I know there’s a great rewards program, but what else is there?
A: There are several of them, and some of them have “perks within the perks”.
The first one is travel privileges. These include airport club access (access to certain lounges or waiting areas that aren’t open to everyone, the opportunity to take advantage of upscale hotel or resort programs, the ability to participate in the international airline program, cruise privileges, and Platinum destination vacations (specific packages that might not be available elsewhere.
The next “perk” is preferred access privileges. These include a “concierge” (a personal helper, so to speak, when using the card), invitation only privileges to certain restaurants or entertainment events, the ability to make dining reservations, and the choice of doing business with specific Platinum shopping partners.
In addition, the access privileges “perk” is one of the ones with the “perks within the perk”. These include premium seats; that is, being able to get choice seats at different entertainment events, when they’re available, and premium access, which means you can purchase advance tickets, and take advantage of preferred seating—which means you can buy tickets before they go on sale to the general public, as well as access to food festivals or VIP concert packages.
The premium protections “perk” cover several different areas including travel, transportation, and shopping. These include global assistance, roadside assistance, car rental loss or damage insurance, baggage insurance, travel accident insurance, and purchase protection.
Last but certainly not least the American Express Platinum Card has a rewards program. You earn points each time you use your card.
