That depends on the company that issued the credit card. In some instances, you may redeem your credit card points by calling a toll-free number. Again, depending on the credit card, you may be able to do this 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, or there may be certain hours and days (for example, 9:00 AM until 9:00 PM, Monday-Saturday) when the redemption center is staffed.
When you call the number, you may talk to a customer service representative who will help you redeem your points, or you may be taken through a phone menu. Either way, you simply choose the number of points you want to redeem and what you want to redeem them for, and this will be done for you. You will receive confirmation and/or vouchers or other proof of redemption through regular mail or e-mail.
Some credit card companies allow you to start the redemption process on-line. For example, the Citi MTVu credit card, which has been designed for college students, allows you to download the redemption form. You then simply complete the form, and send it to the address given either on the form or in the information you received with the card.
