You may have several choices, or you may have very few choices. The ones you do have will depend on your credit card company’s rewards program terms.
You may be able to convert your airlines miles into a monetary value. This can come in the form of actual cash, or you may only be allowed to apply the “cash amount” to your statement balance. Either way, however, you still benefit.
You may be able to “roll over” your airline miles to hotel rewards. Instead of purchasing airline tickets, you can use them towards a hotel stay. Depending on how many points you have, you may get one or more free nights.
You may be able to redeem them for gas cards, merchandise gift cards, restaurant vouchers, and other things. While you may not have been able to buy a ticket, you can still at least get or do something else you enjoy.
In some instances, however, you may have to figure out a way to use them as quickly as possible in order to avoid losing them. Again, it depends on the terms of your credit card company. Their customer service or rewards department will be able to tell you what you need to or can do.
