Update: This offer is ending at 4PM EST on December 22nd.

The Citi ThankYou(SM) Preferred offers $500 in gift cards or other rewards over the first year. Customers who spend $5,000 within the first 6 months will earn 25,000 bonus points. Customers who spend $5,000 within the following 6 months will receive an additional 25,000 bonus points.

Each offer is independent, so customers do not have to spend $5,000 in the first period to be eligible for the bonus in the second period. In other words, if you spend $10 in your first 6 months and buy a $5,000 bedroom set during the following 6 months, you’ll still get 25,000 bonus points.

The 50,000 bonus points can be redeemed in numerous ways. It will get you $500 worth of gift cards, electronics, travel, cash and/or other items. So, if you were to get this card within the next few months, you’d have an extra $500 to spend during the 2012 holiday season or to spend in other ways.

Other than the bonus, each dollar spent earns 1 ThankYou point on most purchases. However, each dollar spent at supermarkets, gas stations and drug stores earns 5 points. Each point is worth 1 cent, so 100 points will get you a dollar worth of items.

There is no annual fee with this card and a 0 percent APR on purchases and balance transfers for 12 months, followed by a variable APR of 12.99 to 20.99 percent on each. The rest of the fees are similar to those that you’d find on most other cards.

In addition to the bonus points, the rewards with this card will be good if you spend a lot on groceries, gasoline and drug-store purchases. Additionally, with a potential $500 in rewards ready to go for the 2012 holiday season – or just to spend on other items – this card isn’t a bad deal overall with it’s lack of an annual fee and 0 percent introductory APRs. If you are in the market for a new credit card, then this will be completive with the others that are currently out there.
