Flying is rarely a comfortable experience these days. Airlines routinely overbook their flights. Getting through security requires that you practically strip. And how many times has a harried fellow passenger let a suitcase from the overhead bin drop onto your head?

You need a drink to get through it all. Fortunately, there are a host of credit cards that provide you with free access to the many private-access lounges located in airports across the country.

These lounges, often with names such as the President's Club or SkyLounge -- offer an oasis in the busy, noisy and crowded world of the modern airport. Open only to the select few, these lounges are the one place where you can escape for some low-key you time between flights.

If you hold one of the following credit cards, count yourself lucky: You have the opporunity to escape.

Platinum Card from American Express

It's little surprise that the Platinum Card from American Express would top this list. This is one high-end card. And it gives you access to some high-end airport lounges.

With this card, you'll receive free access to American Airlines' Admirals Club, Continental Airlines' Presidents Club, the Delta Sky Club and all US Airways Club locations in airports scattered across the globe.

Let's face it: If you can't find an airport lounge to your liking with the American Express Platinum Card, you just don't like airport lounges.

Continental Airlines OnePass Plus Card

The Continental Airlines OnePass Plus card, offered by Chase, provides you with two free passes to the Continental Airlines Presidents Club. And that's not all: You'll also earn $50 back after your first purchase with this card. You'll also earn two miles for every dollar in purchases with Continental Airlines that you make with this card. You'll earn one mile for every dollar that you charge for all other purchases.

Pentagon Federal Premium Travel Rewards

Pentagon Federal Credit Union is one of the largest credit unions in the country. Designed to serve such folks as military personnel and Department of Defense employees, this credit union is justly famous for its nice array of credit cards.

One of these cards is the Premium Travel Rewards card. This card, besides rewarding you with five rewards points for every dollar that you charge on airfare, also gives you free access to airport lounges across the country.

There is a catch, though. You have to spend at $15,000 annually with your card to gain this access.
