If you fly often on Virgin America Airlines, you might be able to earn free flights quickly by joining that airline’s frequent-flyer program, Elevate. By enrolling in this program, you’ll earn Elevate points by flying, making purchases with the Virgin America Visa Signature Card or by staying at partner hotels, dining at partner restaurants or shopping at participating retailers.

Once you’ve redeemed enough points — as low as 2,500 points for some Virgin America flights — you can redeem them for free airfare.

Joining the Program: Signing up for Elevate is simple. Log onto the program’s home page and click on the “Join Elevate” button. You’ll then have to fill out an online form that asks basic information about yourself, including your address and contact number, and requires you to create an Elevate program password. It will not cost you to sign up for this program.

Earning Miles: You can earn miles in several ways through the Elevate program. First, you’ll earn five points for every dollar that you spend on Virgin America flights. You can also use the Virgin America Visa Signature card to boost your points. With this card, you’ll earn three points for every dollar that you charge on Virgin America purchases and one point for every dollar that you charge for all other purchases.

The credit card does not charge an annual fee. Its purchase interest rate, though, is a bit high. Depending on your creditworthiness, you’ll be charged a rate of either 15.99 percent or 24.99 percent.

You can also earn points by booking stays at hotels that participate in the Elevate program and by spending at participating rental-car companies, retailers and restaurants.

Redeeming Points: To redeem your Elevate points, you must visit the Elevate home page and log into your account. You can then search for Virgin America flights based on the number of Elevate points that they would cost. You can sign up for any flight if you have enough points to pay for it.

The Elevate program promises that members will not have to face blackout dates. The program also promotes the fact that Elevate points do not expire.

Final Verdict: The frequent-flyer niche is a crowded one today, with airlines of all sizes offering their own programs. Virgin America’s Elevate program compares well to its competitors. The program is simple to use: You’ll have little trouble signing up for the program or redeeming your Elevate points for free flights to Virgin America destinations. The program also earns points for allowing members to accumulate free miles in a wide variety of ways.
