Do you think that carrying a credit card is all fun and games and that nothing bad could ever happen? If so, you are just like millions of other people. But guess what? Credit cards can be very dangerous.

Not only can they ruin your financial life, but they can hurt relationships with your family as well.

Is that a risk that you want to take?

The main issues with credit cards come into play with people who have no self control.

What does this mean? Simply put, you have available credit and cannot stop yourself from spending uncontrollably.

Just because you have a credit line of $20k does not mean that you should max out your card. This is not the same as cash. With cash, you spend it and that is that. But with a credit card you spend money and have to repay pay it sooner or later.

And on top of this, you are going to be hit with finance charges.

So not only are you spending money to make a purchase, but you must also deal with interest down the road.

Within a matter of minutes you can max out your credit card. If you don’t have the money to pay your credit card bill in full you are going to be subject to finance charges in most cases (unless you have an introductory rate of zero percent).

You can tally a huge credit card bill quick enough, but end up in a position where it takes years to pay off the debt.

Is this something that you want to deal with?

You should never replace cash spending with credit cards. There is nothing wrong with using credit if you are making a big purchase, or want to add a level of protection between you and the seller.

But if you cannot afford to buy what you want with cash you should not think that you can afford it when using a credit card.

Don’t take all of this information the wrong way. There is some good that can come from using credit cards, and many people do so in a responsible manner.

Just remember that there are some drawbacks that can greatly affect your life if you are not careful.
