Citi credit card and Expedia customers, we have good news and bad news: Citi and Expedia are ending their long-standing relationship that gave travelers 3X ThankYou points when they booked travel through Expedia on their Citi card. Beginning December 1, 2010, you won’t earn any ThankYou points when you book travel through Expedia using most Citi credit cards. That’s the bad news.

But there’s a lot of good news to soften the blow for Citi card holders and Expedia customers.

  • Expedia is launching its own travel rewards program
  • You’ll still earn ThankYou points if you book travel on Expedia using your Citi PremierPass® / Expedia ® World MasterCard ® credit card
  • ThankYou points previously earned by booking through Expedia don’t expire and can still be redeemed at ThankYou.com.

Changes to Citi PremierPass / Expedia World MasterCard Rewards Program

We mentioned above that you can still earn ThankYou points when you book on Expedia using your Citi PremierPass / Expedia World MasterCard. That’s true. But instead of earning 3X rewards points, you’ll earn 2X rewards points. All other card benefits will remain the same.

Other Information About the Expedia Rewards Program

On its website, Expedia notes that it will be revealing details about its new travel rewards program soon. There could be the possibility that you will be able to combine your ThankYou rewards points with points earned from the new program and redeem them through Expedia’s rewards program — but Expedia isn’t sure yet if they will offer this option.
