Ink Bold Business Card Review

CREDITSHOUT RATING:
Excellent

Verdict: The Chase Ink Bold was a popular business charge card that was discontinued at the end of 2014. You can still choose between two Ink business cards: the Ink Plus and the Ink Cash, both of which offer great rewards. The Chase Ink Plus is a good alternative to the now retired Ink Bold card, giving you 5x points in popular business spending categories and the ability to transfer points to popular frequent travel programs. The card has a $95 annual fee, waived the first year.

If you want a business card with no annual fee, the Chase Ink Cash card earns 5% back in popular categories with a 0% intro APR for one year and a $200 sign-up offer.

The review below is now for reference purposes.

Overview

The Ink Bold® Business Card is designed to compete directly with the American Express Gold Card. The idea behind Ink Bold and the Gold Card is that there is no APR and you pay no finance charges because you pay your balance off in full each month.

As with the AMEX Gold card there is no preset spending limit with Ink Bold, which means that you’re large purchases are evaluated individually based on your spending habits, your relationship with Chase and your credit history. The idea behind this is that it automatically provides your business with a bit more flexibility during times when business may be booming.

The Ink Bold and AMEX Gold both have an annual fee starting the second year that you have the card. However the Ink Bold’s fee is currently $30 a year less than the Gold Card.

How This Card Works

The Ink Bold Business Card allows you to earn up to 5 point for every dollar spent, which is considerably higher than most business rewards cards. You can also earn double points on every dollar spent on airfare that is booked through the Ultimate Rewards Travel Booking tool available to you a Chase business card member.

  • Earn up to 5X points per dollar on eligible business purchases, and points do not expire
  • No interest charges because it’s a pay in full charge card
  • Transfer points at full value to participating travel programs.

In addition to the points structure listed above, you will earn 1 point per dollar on all other purchases (or after you hit the cap on the categories above).

If you choose to shop through Chase’s online mall, you can earn up to 10 bonus points per $1 spent depending on the merchant.

Travel and Shopping Benefits

One major benefit that this card has, not included with some other Chase business cards is a complimentary Airport Lounge with Priority Pass membership for the first year. This gives you free access to over 600 airport lounges in 100 different countries. Even though if you wish to continue its $99 a year, you still get 2 complimentary visits each year.

From a shopping standpoint, even though Ink Bold gives you access to Chase’s online mall where you can earn bonus points, with AMEX you can save up to 25% with Fedex, Delta, Hertz and others which are more relevant from a business perspective. With that said the Ink Bold card is accepted by twice as many merchants as the Amex card simply because it’s a VISA, where as Gold Card is well, AMEX.
