I have a World Elite Master Card Continental Airlines Presidential Plus Card. I was told by a Continental Presidents Club attendant that my card was not good for entry into the club. That isn’t what I just read above. Could you please tell me if this card is or isn’t good for entry into the Continental Presidents Club? I have a trip planned for next month with a long layover and want to spend it in the club. Thank you for your attention to this matter. ML Dujka

ML – just show them your boarding pass and say you don’t have your membership card – it’s this that you need to get into the lounge and if you have status you’ll get in. No worries!

I would like to get this card, is it offered by invitation only ?
Also, will all my family members under the same reservation be able to use the presidents club lounge if we are traveling together.

Hi,
I have the Presidential Plus Card and I think it is great. The credit card itself, does NOT get you into the club(s). However, a couple weeks after you receive the credit card, you will receive your President’s Club card in the mail. I don’t know why there is a delay between receiving the credit card and the President’s Club card, but there is one. The good thing about the President’s Club card is that it will get you into 3 clubs: President’s Club (Continental Airlines), Red Carpet Club (United Airlines) and US Airways Club. Each club has different benefits though. For example, most alcohol drinks are free in the Continental lounge, but US Airways only gives you the house red and white wine and bud light complimentary. Just something to take note of.
One other note, in order to get the Hyatt benefits, you will still need to join their club first and get a membership number. Not sure about Avis, since my company doesn’t use their rent-a-car service.

I wouldn’t recommend this card. I recently was given entry to the Phoenix Red Carpet Club and denied entry to the Denver club using my Presidential Plus Card. I have tried to use the Presidential Plus Card three times for priority boarding and been denied each time. I have been told by gate agents that the Presidential Plus Cards mean nothing to them when it comes to priority boarding. Presidential Plus Card assistants have assured me that priority boarding is included, but not if the gate agents aren’t aware of it. I am paying a large fee to have such poor service. It appears that airline employees are not aware of the Presidential Plus card services. I would think twice about paying for this card. So far no one has honored the benefits, except taking credit on Mastercharge.

Debra, the Presidential Plus card will not get you priority boarding by showing it to gate agents. You have to use the card to purchase your plane ticket and then the ticket will be printed with “Elite Access” on it. Hope that helps.

If you travel frequently for work or fun this is a great card to have. I had one since they first came out with the card and it has been great.
I am not sure why the folks in the previous posts have had issues with priority boarding or the lounges, but this has always worked for me – globally. Prior to traveling, just take a look at continental / united’s website and confirm the airline partners. If they are a partner they will let you in. No problem. Again, I have used this globally with no issue.
One other benefit not mentioned above is the ability to earn EQM. Thus if you do not fly all the time, you can still earn status through this card, and this card alone.
Only downside is the $395 fee, but if you travel all the time, it is worth it.
One other comment – with Avis you get an automatic 2 car upgrade through this card. You just need to join their program and register the card.
