Marriott Rewards Premier Visa Signature Card Review

Verdict: The Marriott Rewards Premier Visa Signature Card makes it hard to accumulate points unless you travel often and stay at Marriott hotels. A more well rounded travel rewards card is Escape by Discover which allows you to earn double miles on every dollar you spend.

Overview:
The Marriott Rewards Premier Visa Signature Card is a travel rewards credit card offered by Chase. This card is targeted at frequent travelers and allows you to earn extra points for staying at Marriott hotels, and on travel related expenses such as airfare and hotel rooms.

How This Card Works:
When you make your first purchase with the Marriott Rewards Premier Visa Signature Card you receive 20,000 bonus points. You then earn 5 points for every $1 you spend at Marriot locations and 2 points for every $1 you spend on airfare, dining and rental cars. You can also earn 1 point for every $1 spent on all other purchases.

Travel and Shopping Benefits
Your Marriott Rewards can be redeemed for free stays at over 3,000 hotels worldwide, as well as for airfare, cruises, car rentals and other travel and event related rewards. If you’re a frequent flier you can also redeem rewards for airport VIP lounge access.

One thing I really like about the Marriott rewards program is that you can redeem points for all inclusive vacation packages which include a 5 or 7 night stay as well as all of your dining expenses, and some include airfare. All inclusive vacations in the Caribbean and Latin America start at 70,000 points.

Fees:

This card has a $65.00 annual fee.

Cash advances are available for a 3 % fee ($10 minimum fee). There is a $15.00 late payment fee on balances up to, but not including, $100.00; $29.00 on balances of $100.00 up to, but not including, $250.00; and $39.00 on balances of $250.00 and over.

Pros:

  • 20,000 bonus points when you sign up
  • Receive an annual free night stay at Marriott hotels regardless of how much you spend.
  • Low Annual Fee

Cons:

  • Fairly restrictive rewards program, you can only earn 5 points for every dollar on Marriott hotel stays.
