I’m sure by now that most of you have heard about the horrible suffering and devastation caused by the massive earthquake in Haiti last week. Although this tragedy has been all over the news I haven’t heard much from other financial bloggers about the subject or even calling on readers to donate.
That is, until my friend Mr Credit Card made a generous offer on his blog this morning to donate $1 to UMCOR (the United Methodist Committee on Relief) for every comment that readers leave on this post.
UMCOR is affiliated with the church that Mr Credit Card attends, and currently has 14 projects going on in Haiti. 100% of the proceeds from donations made to UMCOR go towards the relief effort.
I personally donated to the Red Cross through iTunes which I found extremely convenient. If you have an iTunes account, just login and you’ll see a link to donate in the store area. You can then choose to donate anywhere from $5 to $200 – even if you can only afford $5. At this point, I think most people involved with the relief effort will tell you that every dollar makes a difference.
