Best Gas Credit Cards 2010

With gas credit cards you can earn up to 5% cash back (an astounding 10% back with some cards if you redeem your points for gift certificates) on all of your fuel purchases. You earn points every time you buy gasoline. You can then request a check from your credit card company once you reach about $50 in points. Below are our recommended gas credit cards.
| 1. Discover® Open Road Card |
|
The Discover® Open Road Card gives you a 2% Cashback Bonus at any gas station and any restaurant. Unlike some cards you can buy the gas at any station to qualify. The 2% Cashback Bonus is at any gas station and restaurant. You can also double your rewards if you redeem your points for gift certificates at selected merchants. With this card you also get up to 1% unlimited Cashback Bonus on all other purchases Advantages

| 2. Discover® More Card |
|
The Discover® More Card was chosen as our top overall credit card of 2010, and one of the main reasons for that was the high percentage of cash back you can earn on gasoline and fuel purchases. The Discover® More Card offers 5% Cashback Bonus on gas during certain times of the year. An advantage of the Discover More card though is that you can also earn up to 5% Cashback Bonus in categories that change like travel, gas, groceries, restaurants, home improvement stores and more. | Discover Open Road | 2% All Year |
| Discover More Card | 5% (During certain times of the year) |
| Chase Freedom Card | 5% (During certain times of the year) |
As you can see indicated in the table above, both the Discover Open Road Card and Discover More Card have a much more generous cash back program than even the TrueEarnings Card from Costco and American Express. If you are looking for a card that offers a more broad cash back program I recommend the Discover More Card, but if you are looking for the best Gas Credit Card out there go with the Discover Open Road card.
When looking for the right gas credit card for you it’s important to understand there are really two types of cards. The first type, (the kind we recommend getting) is a general gas credit card like the Discover Open Road Card, that gives you cash back regardless of what gas station you use the card at. There are also station specific gas credit cards, however we really don’t recommend these since you only save money when you buy gas from a specific station. The station specific cards generally don’t give you a higher % cash back anyway, so it makes much more sense to stick with a general gas card.
Station Specific Gas Credit Cards
Shell Credit Card
Sunoco Credit Card
ExxonMobil Personal Card

My personal favorite is the Discover More Card although I would also use the American Express True Earnings Card (and maybe a Visa or MasterCard too) in conjunction with it because there are some places that do not accept Discover.
