I thought I would do something a bit different today and highlight some of the other great credit related posts around the web. These posts were hand selected from the various other financial blogs I read on a daily basis.
First up today is MrCreditCard who explores where all of the points go if you cancel your credit card. There are three different rewards systems and where your points go when you cancel your card is determined by which points system you have. In the end he seems to favor the rewards system with cash back credit cards because the programs are generally more straight forward, however you need to watch out for cards like the TrueEarnings Card from Costco and American Express if you’re thinking about canceling soon.
The Digerati Life talks about the new fees associated with Bank of America Credit Cards. There are rumors that B of A is considering adding an annual fee to some of their existing cards that currently don’t have one. I think that their customers may be smarter than they think and if this really is the case people will be jumping ship to something like the Discover More Card that still has no annual fee.
Jim over at Bargineering has an interesting post about the risks and rewards of credit report bumpage, which is a strategy that can be used to increase your credit score by “bumping” off the hard inquiries. I’ve personally never tried this strategy but I would be interested to see how long it takes the credit bureaus to catch on once a noticeable amount of people start doing it.
Last up on this Friday the 13 is the The Smarter Wallet, which takes an in depth look at the various services offered by the different Credit Reporting Agencies to check your credit score. Although there are already a good amount of articles out there covering the topic, this article stood out because of the comparison table that they included which clearly outlines the cost, and grading system for each service. I usually go with Equifax because Experian no longer offers consumers a look at their real FICO score, which Millie mentions.
