Verdict: A great benefits card for individuals that fly Delta and spend at least $30,000 per calendar year. This card grants access to the Crown Room Club, which features a fully stocked bar, along with satellite television and free wifi.

Overview:
This card has an annual fee of $450 and is for individuals that spend a minimum of $30,000 per year. Spending earns MQMs (Medallion Qualification Miles), which accumulate to grant medallion access, which has its own benefits. Medallion status allows one unlimited complimentary upgrades and priority boarding, among other things. This card also has a host of other travel and protection services.

How This Card Works:
The Delta Reserve credit card earns 15,000 MQMs for every $30,000 spent per calendar year. You can give MQMs to family members and friends or use them yourself to achieve medallion status, which offers a large variety of free upgrades and tickets. You also earn 10,000 MQMs with your first purchase. Your MQMs are also used to purchase miles for Delta flights, with no blackout dates. Also, a first class companion certificate is awarded each year.

Travel and Shopping Benefits:
This card grants many travel benefits, including travel accident insurance, baggage insurance, and car rental loss and damage insurance. Roadside assistance and concierage service is also available. This card is designed for people that spend a large part of their time traveling and away from home. MQM, or medallion qualification miles, are also awarded to help the member reach medallion status, which allows unlimited free upgrades and many other benefits.

Fees:
The APR for the Delta Reserve credit card is 13.24% with a balance transfer rate of 9.99%. The default rate is 18.24%. The annual fee for this card is $450 unless you are also the cardholder of a domestic American Express Consumer charge card with an annual fee greater than $55, in which case the fee is $395. Late fees are $19 for balances under $400 and $38 for balances greater than $400. The over the limit fee is $35.

Pros:

  • Identity theft assistance
  • Fraud protection
  • Online account management
  • Low fees
  • First class companion certificate each year
  • Earns miles, good for flights and reaching medallion status
  • Grants access to Crown Room Club
  • Travel and baggage insurance
  • Concierage serice

Cons:

  • Somewhat high annual fee
