Discover® More Card - $100 Cashback BonusThis seems to be the year for cash back for new credit card holders.

Discover is now offering a $50 cash back bonus for the Discover More card, which was rated the best cash back credit card for 2011 by CreditShout.

The only catch (if you want to call it that) to earning your $50 cash back is that you must spend $250 within the first three months of owning the card. If you carry your card everywhere you go and decide to use it for one category of purchase (for instance, gas or groceries) you can probably hit $250 easily. Most families spend $100 a week on groceries, for instance.

To take real advantage of the offer, make sure you spend those $250 in 5% cashback categories. For December, those categories are:

  • Restaurants
  • Department Stores
  • Clothing Stores

This makes now the perfect time to get a Discover More card for your holiday shopping, pay off the card in January, and get a nice $100 bonus to start the new year right. The Discover 5% cashback categories for January through March are travel-related:

  • Airlines
  • Car rentals
  • Hotels
  • Cruises
  • Restaurants

You can earn 5% cashback on purchases up to $800, and can easily reach $500 in purchases to earn your $100 back by making purchases in any (or all) of these categories.

What Else Makes Discover More CreditShout’s Top Rewards Credit Card?

It’s no secret here at CreditShout that we’re big fans of the Discover More rewards card. We ranked it the BEST credit card, hands down, for 2011.

Let’s start with no annual fee. It’s getting harder and harder to find a rewards credit card with no annual fee, and Discover More continues to offer that bonus. It also has a zero percent APR for six months, with a 12-month 0% APR on balance transfers, making it a great card if you currently carry a balance on a high-interest card but want to make 2011 the year you get out of debt for good. Remember, if you transfer a balance, leave enough room on the card to make $250 in purchases to earn your $50 cash back and a 0% interest rate for six months on those purchases.

After the introductory period ends, you’ll get a very reasonable 11.99% APR if you have excellent credit, but could end up paying anything up to 20.99% depending on your creditworthiness. This makes it the kind of card you want to use for cash back rewards, but don’t want to carry a balance beyond the introductory period.

In addition to 5% cashback on rotating categories, you also get 1% cash back on all other purchases. When you shop through Discover’s shopping portal, Discover.com, you earn additional cash back rewards. Redeem points for gift cards from more than 100 retailers or cash deposited directly into your checking account when you accrue $20 or more.

The Discover More card has a $0 fraud liability guarantee, which means you are not responsible for fraudulent or unauthorized charges on your card. It also has a host of travel benefits that rival other top-level rewards cards. These benefits include:

  • 24/7 Emergency Travel Assistance
  • Travel insurance
  • Rental car Collision Damage Waiver
