The bonus cash back can be claimed after making $1,000 worth of purchases during the first 3 months. This is on top of any rewards you earn with the excellent rewards program offered by American Express which I detail below.
Rewards With Every Purchase
Every purchase that you make with the Blue Cash will qualify for cash back. The amount that you’ll get depends on the nature of the purchase.
Purchases at supermarkets qualify for 3 percent cash back. So, if you stock up on food and other supermarket items for the family every week, you’ll rake in some nice rewards with this card. Purchases at department stores and gas stations qualify for 2% cash back. With fuel prices being the way they are, this is also a solid deal.
One thing I really love about this card, is that Amazon.com purchases are considered “Department Store” purchases, giving you 2% back on everything you buy through Amazon.
All other purchases qualify for 1% cash back. As you can see, this card will effectively give you a discount of at least 1% on all purchases, as you’ll get that or more in cash back rewards.
Major Travel Benefits
On top of the excellent rewards program, credit cards offered by American Express are known for their travel perks and benefits.
Auto rental loss and damage insurance is also offered with this card. So, you won’t have to pay an extra sum to have your next rental vehicle insured. The Global Assist program is there for cardholders who travel more than 100 miles from home. If you get into legal, financial, medical or other emergencies, American Express will help you out.
American Express also offers travel accident insurance. This will insure you against accidental death and dismemberment while traveling on a bus, train, plane or other form of similar transit. Not that you’ll want to get in a bus crash, but at least the financial aspect of doing so won’t be as bad!
American Express offers discounts and priority ticketing to various events. You may even get access to tickets before they go on sale to the general public.
Purchase protection of up to $1,000 per occurrence and $50,000 per year is available with this card.
Also, if you wish to return an item and the merchant won’t take it back, you’ll be covered for up to $300 per occurrence and $1,000 per year if it is within 90 days of the purchase.
You’ll also have the opportunity to extend a manufacturer’s warranty with this card, so your purchases will be safer than if you use cash or a weaker card.
With no annual fee and solid cash back rewards, this is a card that you should consider for your daily purchases. The 3% cash back at supermarkets and 2% back at department stores is great for those with families, as you probably spend a lot on groceries and clothing. The 2% back at gas stations can’t hurt these days as well.
Overall, this is a great credit card to have in your wallet.
