Here we are at Friday already and it’s time for our second credit article roundup. Each week I will be sharing some interesting articles I come across during the week on other financial blogs, that are generally credit related although I may make some exceptions. There was definitely no shortage of credit articles this week, and it was tough to pick three that I enjoyed most but unlike some link roundups on other sites I want to keep this somewhat realistic and manageable.

How To Legally Decrease The Interest Rate On Your Credit Cards (Step By Step) – MoneyNing

When I first came across this article on MoneyNing, I couldn’t believe that we didn’t cover it here already. They have a step by step guide to help you legally decrease the interest rate on your credit cards. The great thing about this article is that they have a script to read from when you call the credit card company up already written for you, which makes this incredibly easy even for people who like to avoid confrontation.

My Take on Dave Ramsey – AskMrCreditCard

You’ve probably heard about Dave Ramsey, or at least heard of his snowball effect debt repayment method, heck there’s an iPhone app for it. Dave Ramsey hates debt, and if he had his way, MrCreditCard and I would be out of a job, or at least not writing about credit cards anymore so it was interesting to read one of his writers take on Dave Ramsey and his methodology. Without writing my own article about the subject I will say that I do think Ramsey’s method of eliminating credit cards from your life has some merit and works for certain people, even though obviously I don’t personally use it because I’m responsible with my cards.

6 Reasons to Avoid Retail Store Credit Cards – DebtGoal

DebtGoal has an article this week about something I’ve been preaching since the very beginning of CreditShout – to avoid store credit cards! Although you can save 10 or 15% initially with your first purchase, in the end these cards are laced with hidden fees and high rates and simply aren’t worth it. Instead of dealing with store credit cards go apply for a decent cash back credit card that can save you between 1 – 5% on everything you buy, regardless of what store it’s at.

That wraps it up for this week, now I’m off to eat at this great Japanese Fusion restaurant in Philly. If you have a good credit related article you want me to check out for next weeks roundup, be sure to submit it via the contact form – or just leave a comment below!
