Blue from American Express®

Verdict: Blue from American Express® is an excellent credit card which offers a reward program called Membership Rewards Express. There is no annual fee for this card and an interest rate of 0% for the first 6 months. Additionally, the balance can be paid over time, if so desired.

Overview

American Express has long been a leader in providing exceptional resources to travelers, businesses owners and personal cardholders. With over 150 years, this company is committed to giving personalized options and customer service twenty-four hours a day.

The Blue from American Express® credit card offers membership reward points that can be redeemed for fabulous merchandise. Everyday purchases earn one point per dollar spent and never have expiration. Certain other merchant purchases will gain two points and even ten points per dollar that is charged on this credit card.

How This Card Works

When the credit card is used for everyday purchases, the amount spent will earn points that can be redeemed for merchandise or services. Purchases can be made online with retailers or while shopping at department stores or the mall.

The cardholder has the option of paying the balance in full or letting the balance carry over, as long as a minimum amount is received each month. Many credit card companies require the balance to be fully paid each month, however, with this card it may be paid over time. The applicants for the Blue from American Express credit card must be at least 18 years of age to qualify.

Travel and Shopping Benefits

The benefits of the Blue from American Express credit card are numerous and include different types of protection for shopping and travel. When shopping, there is a 90 day satisfaction guarantee on certain items that will also cover any losses or damages. If anything, such as a theft or accidental damage, were to occur within 90 days of the purchase date, it will be replaced.

A fraud protection guarantee is also attached to the credit card that will cover any fraudulent charges that werenít authorized by the cardholder.

When you are traveling, there are also numerous benefits with the Blue from American Express credit card. Before you leave on your trip, you can make the reservations for hotels, car rentals and cruises with American Express Online Travel. The hotel reservations can be guaranteed with the credit card and your room will be ready when you arrive, even if you are running late.

There is also an emergency check in feature that will enable you to check into the hotel even if your credit cards have been misplaced or stolen. American Express allows for this type of emergency check in to be charged to your credit card with proper verification.

Car rentals that are charged to the credit card will be covered by insurance to give a peace of mind if any damages or accidents might happen.

Fees

You can transfer balances from another credit card for a fee of 3.0% of the transferred balance and this is considered to be a finance charge.

There will be a late fee after the 20 day grace period and is dependent on the balance. If your balance is less than $400 the late fee will be $19. If your credit card balance is higher than $400, the fee for being late will be $38. These late fees are, of course, subject to any applicable laws.

Some of the other fees that are associated with the Blue from American Express credit card are as follows: $15 fee for a wire transfer, $29 fee for a stop payment, $38 fee for a bad check and there will be a $35 fee if you happen to go over your available limit.

Pros

  • No annual fee.
  • 0% interest for the first 6 months, depending on credit analysis.
  • Membership Rewards Express program to earn points which can be redeemed for merchandise.
  • Balances can be paid over time, no need to pay the full balance every month.

Cons

  • After the first 12 months, a review will be conducted of your credit and payment history, at that time the APR can be increased.
